Pakistan is the sixth most populous country in the world with an estimated population of 184.35 million in 2012-2013 and is expected to attain fifth position in the world by 2050.
The economic survey 2012-13 said the growth rate of population during the fiscal year is 2.0 percent.
It said population especially working age population can become an asset of a country and can help the country to prosper at greater rate. It is estimated that median age in Pakistan is 22 years which means Pakistan is a young country.
The total population of Pakistan in 2012-13 is 184.35 million out of this, the working population is 110 million which is the 60 percent of total population.
This means that the country has abundant economically active human resource. However, this human resource is not being utilized properly due to lack of human resource development programmes.
